This is with reference to the news in June 3 Newsline, describing the pitiable condition of the Wanavdi road. I use this road daily while going to work.

The ride here is often rough and maneuvering through the potholes is risky, especially at night; it is also poorly lit.

At three locations, the potholes are so deep that speeding through them could damage your vehicle beyond repairs besides posing threat to life.

I had taken up the matter with the Pune Cantonment Board in December 2008. The concerned engineer informed that the road comes under the Southern Command and the officer incharge is Lt Col Atul Vats. I contacted him several times since then on telephone requesting to fill the potholes. I was told that they do not have the budget for this road but later in April 2009 he informed that a budget was sanctioned and they would do the needful. When no repairs were visible even after two months I personally visited him in his office on May 27 and explained the risk factors on that road, which have been appropriably described by your reporter. I even requested him that since rains are due any moment at least potholes be filled up and the full repairs be done as he has planned.

Now,it looks like time is running out and the repairs would not be over before monsoons. I hope the authorities concerned repair the road at the earliest.
