Fairy Tails
What the bikini couldnt achieve for Ameesha Patel, the pink fairy has managed. The invite to the launch party of her production house,Patel Productions, bears a pink fairy as a logo. The first film to come out of her production house will star (who else?) her in the lead. Having been on the fringe for close to four years now, with a blink-and-you-miss role every now and then, the actress who shot to fame with her debut in Kaho Na Pyar Hai is trying hard to retain her foothold in the industry.
If Dia Mirza has any fans, they wont miss her for long as her production house with Zayed Khan,Born Free Entertainment,is producing Love Breakups Zindagi with Mirza in the lead. Manisha Koirala,in the news more for her reclusive lifestyle than her career, has plans to direct soon. Though the film industry has no fixed rules, most Bollywood actresses have a shelf-life much shorter than that of their male counterparts. Many of them who start out with a promising career are already has-beens within a few years.
However, not all of them look towards bolstering their film careers. Preity Zinta, when she ran out of meaningful roles, donned the business hat and became the co-owner of the IPL team Kings XI Punjab before returning as a TV show host in Guiness World Records Ab India Todega. Sushmita Sen,on the other hand, has put her modeling experience to good use for her a business in the grooming industry. Most of these once-leading ladies afford their lavish lifestyles by investing in successful businesses and carefully managed assets. Others do appearances, international shows and endorsements, says KS Sanjay, who used to be the secretary to Juhi Chawla and now works for Vidya Balan. Some beauties, once out of the limelight, prefer to age gracefully, like Urmila Matondkar who maintains a low-profile.
Barbara is Back
The failure of Kites,we thought, had put Barbara Mori totally off gear. But it seems not. She is back in Tinseltown, this time to act opposite Rajeev Khandelwal in a film titled Fever. Directed by Rajeev Jhaveri,Barbara plays a linguist who is a second generation Brit. The film is to be shot in virgin locations of Cornwall in England in June and July. Apart from Barbara,Fever will also star an Indian actress. According to sources,Barbara has been signed for a whopping $300,000. The producer of Fever,Ravi Agrawal,is certain that the audience is going to accept her as an Indian actress, this time around. Thats some hope.
Jungle Look
The makers of Joker are turning ambitious with each passing day. A major portion of this fantasy film requires a forest setting to it. However, unlike many filmmakers who choose to scout for real locations when it comes to forest settings,Shirish Kunder has different plans. For his big-budget 3D tale,a forest set is being built at Film City in Mumbai which will cost him around Rs 3 crore. Now,if Shirish would invest similar thought into improving his script,he would be closer to being third time lucky after the Jaan-e-Mann and Tees Maar Khan debacles.
