UoP objects to campus road for public use in DP

The University of Pune (UoP) has filed an objection to the supplementary suggestion in the Development Plan (DP) for the old city limit of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) that seeks restructuring of a private road into a public one.

The University of Pune (UoP) has filed an objection to the supplementary suggestion in the Development Plan (DP) for the old city limit of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) that seeks restructuring of a private road into a public one.

University’s executive engineer (estate department) RV Patil said the varsity has opposed the proposed move in a letter sent to the civic body.

The original DP had a mention of constructing a 24-metre road near UoP campus, which would pass from Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Co-operative Management (VAMNICOM) and stretch up to Khadki Botanical Garden.

However, while approving the draft DP during a General Body meeting of the civic body earlier this year, the proposed road was substituted with the one running on the UoP campus, following a supplementary suggestion made to this effect, which cited a land acquisition problem for the earlier road.

“The public road passing through the university campus will create major disturbance on our campus. Therefore,we are against it. The civic body can go ahead with the earlier plan of developing the adjacent 24-metre road from VAMNICOM,” university authorities said.
