Under fire,UoP exam controller meets Tope, says it was official work
She met Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday but refused to comment what transpired in the meeting saying it was an official visit.
University of Punes (UoP) controller of examination Samapada Joshi, who was reportedly under fire from various quarters and was allegedly being pressured to resign has been on medical leave since Monday. She met Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday but refused to comment what transpired in the meeting saying it was an official visit.
According to the sources, the briefing with the minister was regarding second year engineering re-evaluation results and various issues plaguing the examination department of the university.
As many as 70,000 engineering students had applied for re-evaluation in 2012-13,of which 5,278 students had sought for photocopies of their papers. 171 students had come forward citing wrong assessment of their answer sheets, Joshi had stated earlier.
The second year students had staged a hunger strike last month but withdrew the stir after vice-chancellor WN Gade promised to look into the matter. The university, under the chairmanship of former vice-chancellor Arun Adsool, formed a fact-finding committee which found the complaints true.
Gade had sanctioned medical leave for Joshi on Monday. Balasaheb Naik who has taken the charge of examination section also briefed Tope on Thursday but refused to divulge the details.
Examination department has been mired in controversy since last year. Goof-ups in the online examination system, delay in results or not declaring them at all, errors in hall ticket, errors in degree certificates and lack of communication with the affiliated colleges are some of the issues that has dented the reputation of the department.
Gade said he was unaware of the contents of the briefing.
I am in Delhi attending a meeting. However, the question of re-evaluation scam didnt come up in the assembly. Other than that I am not aware of the contents of briefing by Joshi and Naik, said Gade.
