District collector Vikas Deshmukh has urged all agencies to speed up the Unique identification drive and complete at least 30 per cent of the UID work by June-end. As many as one million people have already been covered under UID across Maharashtra but the drive is yet to pick up in Pune.
Deshmukh has called for installation of additional machines and computers as well as generators and UPS systems in rural areas to ensure the drive is carried smoothly. In rural areas, just 5 per cent people have been covered under the drive.
There are 138 centres across talukas. Residents should carry their identity proof, residential proof and birth date certificate to the centres. We have asked the agencies to make sure they employ persons who have their UID card number generated, said the collector.
