Actor duo Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar, speak about their journey through films, their influences and about their special relationship with the city of Pune
You might remember him as the shy young boy who wishes to take care of his old father in Sholay, and her as the harrowed daughter-in-law from the hit sitcom Tu Tu Main Main but one look at the director-actor/husband-wife duo Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar you cannot help but be amazed at their incredible zest for life.
Speaking about the force that drives him,Sachin says,”I have been acting and directing for almost 46 years now. And even today when I wake up everyday the first thing that I remember is the fact that how lucky I am to have had the support of such wonderful audiences all over the nation and some wonderful family members and friends and how important it is to me to make them feel happy and entertained. That feeling in itself is such a big high that I really do not need any other factor to drive me towards my goals.”
Adding more about his long and illustrious journey he says,” A lot has changed in both, films as well as television as a medium. Change is inevitable but the pace at which changes have occurred is definitely very fast. But in many ways this is the best thing that has happened to the film industries here. Be it Hindi or Marathi both filmmakers and audiences have opened up to newer themes owing to which, prospects are looking brighter than ever before.”
Speaking about her own experiences of working alongside with Sachin as an actor and under him as a director,Supriya adds,”Its very hard to separate Sachin the actor and the director because in many ways he brings this huge bundle of energy into everything that he does. As an actor he gives it all in his performances but as a director he makes it a point to move all his actors to give their very best. In fact people have always complimented me on my comic timing but I guess I owe it all to him. If not for my husband I really doubt if I could be this good.”
In the city for the launch of Eshan’s Emporium,Sachin also takes some time off to explain his tryst with the city and its people,he says,”I have been associated with this city for as long as I can remember. Many of my wife Supriya’s relatives stay here so my connection with this city is both old and deep. As far as the people of the city are concerned, they are ever ready to usher me in and make me feel at home so it’s like being back home.”
On future endeavours,he says,”We will be launching a Marathi film this year for sure, the pre-production for which has already begun, and will also be working on a Hindi film Be Positive whose casting is being finalised as of now. Outside this I might also be looking forward to some interesting ventures as far as television is concerned but as of now there are no concrete plans for that.”
