Two sisters from Pune died in a road mishap when a speeding tempo knocked down their two-wheeler near old Katraj tunnel at Shindewadi on the Pune Satara Road on Saturday morning.
The deceased Anita Shivraj Jadhav (20) and her younger sister Ashwini Vishwambhar Pol (18) of of Dhankawadi – were going to the Balaji temple in Ketkavale.
The sisters left their home in the morning on their two-wheeler. They were going towards Ketkavale,via Pune Satara Road. Around 10 am,a speeding tempo on the same route knocked down the two-wheeler from behind while trying to overtake it. The impact was so severe that Anita died on the spot. Residents with the help of the police rushed Ashwini to Bharati Hospital. However,the younger sibling too succumbed to her injuries in the afternoon.
According to the police,Ashwini hails from Kasba Peth in Barshi,but was currently residing with her sister Anita at Dhankawadi. An offence has been registered against the unidentified tempo driver at Nasrapur police station. Mushtaq Mujahid,a local resident from Velu in Bhor taluka has lodged the complaint.
Assistant sub-inspector M S Kadmane is investigating the case.
