District Collector Chandrakant Dalvi and agriculture commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh are two officers from Pune to undergo the mandatory mid-career training marked for IAS officers from across the country.
Both 1995 batch officers,Dalvi and Deshmukh are in Seoul where the two-month training is in its last phase. It started on October 4 and will end on November 26.
There are four chances for IAS officers to undergo the mandatory training in their career. They have to do it for better opportunities. Both Dalvi and Deshmukh are availing the second chance. As part of course,they attend a session in Mussorie and then move to South Korea to get a feel of East Asia. The course is part of the national training programme by the Centre, said Madhukar Chaudhary,joint secretary of general administration who is in-charge of training facilities.
This year 21 officers from the state cadre of IAS officers are among the 123 officers in the country. Senior professors from South Korean Universities,IIM professors from Kolkata and Ahmedabad conduct the course in Mussorie on administration and later they are given exposure at a South Korean University along with field visits of big companies such as LG,Posco and Hyundai, Chaudhary said.
Deshmukh from Korea said the course was going on fine and was very educative.
Secretary general administration N Y Jantre said such trainings are necessary for officers at various positions in the government. For taking on higher responsibility,they need to undergo such training, he said. This year from the state,the cadre includes two officers from 1991 batch Deepak Kapur from the State Transport Corporation and SVR Srinivas from MMRDA,three,including Radheshyam Moppalwar,from 1995 batch and 16 officers from 1993 batch.
