Two dead,seven hurt in highway bus-trailer collision

Two persons were killed and seven others injured when a private luxury bus collided with a trailer carrying iron rods at 11.45 pm near Pavananagar on old Pune-Mumbai highway on Sunday.

Two persons were killed and seven others injured when a private luxury bus collided with a trailer carrying iron rods at 11.45 pm near Pavananagar on old Pune-Mumbai highway on Sunday.

The luxury bus of Neeta Volvo company was on its way to Pune from Mumbai. The driver of the bus,Ravindra Bhimsha Kallal (32) of Akkalkot,died on the spot while passenger Utpal Neelsekhar Sikdar (30) succumbed to his injuries at Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi. Fifteen passengers sustained minor injuries and were given first aid at the spot,police said. More information Sikdar could not be obtained as his relatives could not be contacted till Monday night,police said.

R V Kendre,assistant police inspector with Kamshet police station,who is investigating the case,said,“The collision was so serious that the front part of the bus was completely damaged. The bars from the trailer which was moving ahead of the bus penetrated into the front panel of the bus.” A constable with Kamshet police said many of the passengers had to be taken out of the bus after breaking the glass panes of the windows.”

Authorities with Lokmanya Hospital said,“Eight of the injured were brought to us. One of them died a couple of hours later. Three of the rest seven had minor injuries and were discharged later. Four injured are still admitted in the hospital.” The names of those who are still under treatment are Anupama Rathod (28,Bhosalenagar),Paresh Laxman (18),Manasi Patil (41,Chintamaninagar,Aundh),Priti Gupta (45,Hinjewadi).
