Once upon a time, two boys met on a social media website and discussed music. While one of them was already in the business; the other, the younger one,was an enthusiast. We shared common interests but had no intention of making music seriously, says Rishab Joshi, adding,But then,Prayag (Mehta) and I made something that sounded nice and sent it to Black Hole Recordings (DJ Tiestos record label).
Joshi and Mehta were 18 and 22 respectively when they signed their first music contract with Black Hole. I signed the contract on my 18th birthday, recalls Joshi. Now,several years later, playing under the moniker Lost Stories, the duo is one of the most formidable Electronic Dance Music (EDM) producers in the country. The Mumbai-based boys are now releasing their debut album Music for # Generation with Universal Music India. These days, they are touring several cities to promote their album, and will perform at Punes Hard Rock Cafe tonight.
We have been working on this album for one-and-a-half-years. While we have released several singles previously, this is our first full-length album, says Joshi. He adds,We have incorporated many genres and blended them into dance music.
The album has eight songs, all of which,as Joshi puts it,are digestible. When we started out,we made deeper music. The songs were longer, sometimes over seven minutes. They were more melodic and complex. But now,the songs are shorter, with a lot of vocals, and the production is edgy. Our music has matured over the years and has been altered to suit the listeners short attention span.
One of the songs from the album,How you like me now,has been released as a single before the albums launch. And the response has been overwhelming. It is on top on iTunes India Dance Charts and No 4 on VH1 top 10 videos, says Joshi.
In Pune, their performance will comprise songs from Music for # Generation, older singles and exclusive edits. We have played in Pune before and it has a great audience. People come with an open mind and dont mind experimentation, says Joshi.
Lost Stories will perform tonight,8 pm onwards
