The engine of the Latur-Mumbai Express caught fire near Ghorpadi station early on Thursday morning. Three other trains plying on the same track were delayed by an hour following the incident. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
When the Mumbai-bound train was between Hadapsar and Ghorpadi stations,excess smoke started coming out of the engine at 4.30 am on Thursday. The engine driver immediately informed the railway authorities and fire brigade was also called in.
Vijay Bhilare,station duty officer with fire brigade said,The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes with the help of three fire tenders and a tanker.
Suhas Lohakare,public relations officers with central railways Pune division said,The engine was immediately separated from the train and a spare engine was given. The process about two hours. We are yet to find out the exact reason behind the fire.
Lohakare said,Three trains that got delayed were,Gondia-Kolhapur Maharashtra Express by one hour 15 minutes,Patna-Pune Express by an hour and Bhubaneshwar-Pune holiday train by an hour.
