Three held for bid to extort builder

Police said the plan was hatched by the trio when they met at a party got to know the builder’s income.

Dattawadi police have arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 10 lakh from a city-based builder. Two of the arrested suspects are employees of the complainant builder.

Mohan Ram Londhe (30), resident of Solapur, Adinath Sartape (35) of Ambegaon and Sunil Mankar (33) of Dhanakwadi were arrested by police on Sunday for trying to extort money Shrinivas Laxman Raskonda (40), a Bibwewadi-based builder.

According to Senior Police Inspector Sambhaji Nimbalkar, Sartape worked as sales executive with Raskonda, while Mankar was the builder’s driver. The third accused Londhe is unemployed.

“The builder had received two calls on July 26 from the accused demanding Rs 10 lakh from him. They threatened him with dire consequences if he did not pay the money. He received another call on July 27, after which he approached us,” said Nimbalkar.
Police said that the extortion plan was hatched by the trio when they had met at a party in the city and got to know about the builder’s income.

The trio has been charged with sections 387 (putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. A magistrate court on Monday remanded the accused to police custody till 7th August.
