The Anti-Narcotics Cell of the Pune police on Sunday arrested three persons and seized 60 kg marijuana worth Rs 3 lakh which they had smuggled from Andhra Pradesh. Police have also seized a multi-utility vehicle from them.
A team led by police inspector Sunil Tambe of the Cell arrested the suspects identified as Vijay Mane (50) of Rasta Peth,his wife Anuradha (40) and driver of the vehicle Netaji Vadadare (24),who is from Osmanabad district. The team arrested the three on a tip off while they were coming to Hadapsar,where a trap was laid on Sunday afternoon.
Constable Ashok Peranekar had got a tip-off that marijuana was being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh and was being brought via Marathwada. Inspector Tambe said,We came to know that the contraband was brought to Pune to be sold in some other towns around the city.
He said the marijuana was packed in two gunny bags and was hidden in the car. The total cost of the seizure,including the car,was about Rs 7 lakh. Sources said a team from the Cell was working on information given by the peddlers.
