A total of 35 films from BBC,British Council,Discovery Channel and other prominent international agencies and film-makers will grip people in Maharashtra,Karnataka,Madhya Pradesh and Goa.

The Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival is all set to spread environmental awareness over 25 cities across these states, starting from Jalgaon on June 23. This initiative of Kirloskar and Vasundhara Club was first held in Pune from Feb 13 – 21.

The festival is an attempt to explore nature and analyse topical issues concerning the environment, wildlife, energy resources, and water. “We aim to be a catalyst in changing people’s perspective towards preserving the environment, reducing global warming, conserving forests and many such serious issues that need our immediate attention,” says Virendra Chitrav, director of the festival. This year, the festival goes by the theme ‘Save Biodiversity’. “This is our endeavour to make people more concerned about nature and preserve our priceless heritage. We are also looking forward to a reciprocal system wherein international festival organisers recognise and invite us to participate,” says Vijay Varma, chairperson of the festival organising committee.

Apart from films, interactive sessions with film-makers and environmental activists,audio-visual lectures, cultural programmes, book exhibitions,Hasat Khelat Paryawaran workshop for kids between Stds 5 and 9 and other workshops for senior citizens, women, and photographers will also be held.

“Films are the main attraction and the highlight of the festival because they capture interest faster. The interaction with the film-makers will also be something to look forward to. In the past three years that we have organised the event,we have seen a requirement for allied programmes like photo exhibitions and workshops. This is why we have incorporated these elements to help the festival grow,” says Arti Kirloskar, convener of the festival. The festival is free for all.
