Reuel Benedict on his musical roots and why performing in the city was so special
The first thing that connects Reuel Benedict to the music industry is the fact that he is the son of famous singer Vijay Benedict, who had sung yesteryear hits such as I am a Disco Dancer and Aaa Gaya Halwa Wala. But the 21-year-old begs to differ. Dad was in a class of his own. I have a different style and a different outlook towards singing, he says.
Benedict performed covers as well as many of his original compilations, that have all been released as singles, such as The Best days,Turn Around and Disconnect. I chose to perform a couple of covers from the likes of John Mayer,The Killers and The Beatles because the people love those, he says. The concert was a part of an NGO initiative in collaboration with High Spirits.
On performing in the city,Reuel says,Everyone here is warm and nice. I have toured the world but the atmosphere here is so relaxed. Probably, that’s what makes Pune one of the best venues to perform at, he says. He is also hoping to make it to Pune for one final gig before he leaves for UK to pursue higher studies. It’s either one gig before September,or a year later. I am hoping to pull off a last gig before I leave, he adds.
