‘Terror alerts for last 8 years’

Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir Trust president Ashok Godse said that the temple had been on terror radar for many years.

Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir Trust president Ashok Godse said that the temple had been on terror radar for many years. “We have been receiving terror alerts from police for the last eight years, mainly during Ganesh festival. Accordingly,we have upgraded security at the temple. We have deployed security guards and installed gadgets like CCTVs and metal detectors at appropriate spots in and around the temple,” he said.

The interrogation of Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig, the alleged LeT commander for Maharashtra state and the only suspect arrested in the German Bakery blast case, however, had not revealed any plan to bomb the Dagdusheth temple. After Delhi police arrested the six IM suspects,Baig had told his lawyers that he did not know any of them. None of these six is named in the bakery blast chargesheet filed by the state ATS. Investigations, however, revealed that both Baig and Siddiqi worked on instructions of Yasin.

An ATS officer said investigation would reveal whether Baig knew Siddiqui or not. “Investigation is on the right track as Delhi police investigation also revealed Yasin’s involvement in the bakery blast. It is also possible that Siddiqui and Baig do not know each other and had no idea about the action plan of each other. This is how terror modules work. All details of the operations are not shared with all members of a terror module,” the officer said.
