Police said the accused are unemployed youths. A youth, with the help of his friends, allegedly attacked a teenage girl with a sharp weapon after a dispute at Hinjewadi on Saturday.
Police said the 19-year-old victim, a resident of Sakhare Vasti in Hinjewadi, sustained multiple injuries in the incident. She has been admitted to a hospital, where she is in a serious condition, police said.
Meanwhile, police have nabbed three persons including a minor. Police said the main accused Yogesh Bhalerao (25) and his aide Prem Lakshman Waghmare (20), both residents of Hinjewadi area, would be formally arrested in the case, while their minor accomplice has been detained.
The police said Bhalerao was having an affair with the victim for the past four years. However, he was already married and after knowing about his affair, his wife left him.
“Meanwhile, the accused was suspecting that the victim was having an affair with another person. So, he and his accomplices allegedly intercepted the victim near her residence in Hinjewadi. They attacked her multiple times with a sharp weapon, leaving her in a pool of blood,” said Gaikwad.
A team from Hinjewadi police station, led by senior police inspector Balaji Pandhare, rushed to the spot. Police nabbed the accused and an FIR has been registered against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Indian Arms Act on charges of attempting to murder the victim.
Police said the accused are unemployed youths.
