A six-month-old home delivery sweet shop,Bengali Sweets,run by Fatima Nalwalla,caters to customers in Camp,Wanowrie,Kondhwa,Bibvewadi,Kalyani Nagar,Koregaon Park and other neighbouring areas. She gives her son credit for the idea. “He wanted to do something different. Bengali sweets are very popular so we decided to help customers get them delivered to their doorstep. Till now,the sale has been very good during the festive season,” says Nalwalla. There are plans to fully convert the set-up into an online one. “Currently,we advertise through social networking sites. People call us to place their orders but we soon plan to make it completely online as we expand,” she adds. Nalwalla gets around five to six orders every week.

While such small set-ups are mushrooming in the city,there are a few names that have been doing this for a long time. Ferns-n-Petals,essentially known for flower delivery,also has a sweets-and-flowers delivery option that one can avail of online. At its Kothrud outlet,Krunal Bafna,partner,Ferns and Petals,goes over the the final delivery to be made to a customer in Hinjewadi. The order has been placed by a customer in Mumbai. “We deliver sweets in 150 cities. We try to get into an arrangement with popular local sweet vendors and source the sweets from them. The manner and style of delivery is ours,” he says.

At Bhawnagri Fancy Sweet Mart in Camp,sweets are delivered through Speed Post. Says Nayen Parekh,owner,Bhawnagri,”We send sweets like kaju katli,anjeer roll,kaju roll.”
