Supriya Sule targets BJP, says Pune residents suffering for 2 years without elected civic body

The NCP leader says there are issues related to water, road infrastructure and garbage disposal in the municipal corporation area that falls under her Baramati Lok Sabha constituency.

NCP executive president Supriya Sule said on Monday that Pune residents are suffering because of the absence of an elected body and that the ruling BJP-led alliance had failed to resolve issues related to civic elections in the state that have been delayed by around two years.

“The five-year term of the elected civic body of the PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) was over in 2022 and it will be two years now without an elected body in the city. It is unfortunate that there have been no elections for the last two years, because of which common people are suffering, with civic issues not getting resolved,” the Baramati MP said.

Sule said that there were issues related to water, road infrastructure and garbage disposal in the PMC area that falls under the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. “I have been reviewing the civic issues every month but there is hardly any improvement. The water issue is serious in some parts, while the traffic issue is deteriorating on some city roads. Garbage is not collected regularly in some parts of the city and the system has collapsed,” she said.

The NCP leader said there was no need for the state government to spend huge amounts of taxpayer money for organising an event of Shasan Aplya Daari. “The money spent on the event can be used for the welfare of citizens and meet their needs. The chief minister should do the work he is supposed to do and not the work that can be done by government staff at the local level,” she said.

Also, Supriya Sule welcomed the Supreme Court decision to send back all the convicts in the Bilkis Bano case back to jail. “We are thankful to the Supreme Court for the order in the sensitive case. It was insensitive behaviour in which the convicts’ release from jail was celebrated with a felicitation and the distribution of sweets,” she said.
