Move in keeping with 12th report of Administrative Reforms Commission

Students of deemed and Central universities would soon be able to avail the benefits of self-attestation of documents like mark-sheets and birth certificates. The move,to be implemented by the University Grants Commission (UGC),comes after the 12th report of the Administrative Reforms Commission suggested the recommendations.

“Obtaining an attested copy or affidavit not only requires money but also consumes a lot of time of citizens and government officials. It is requested to kindly review the existing requirements of attested copy or affidavit in various application forms in phased manner and whenever possible make provision for self-certification,after obtaining approval from the competent authority,” read a memorandum by Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances,Ministry of Personnel,Public Grievances and Pension of India.

The UGC,referring to same memorandum, has requested deemed universities and Central universities among other institutions,to adopt the provisions of self-attestation in prescribed manner.

Under the self-attestation method, students will have to produce original documents at the final stage of admissions besided fulfilling other procedures.

Titled as Citizen Centric Administration — The Heart of Governance, the 12th report of the Administrative Reforms Commission has recommended adoption of self-certification provision for ‘simplifying procedures’.
