Student drinks disinfectant at school,suicide bid suspected

A 15-year-old student of an English medium school in the city allegedly consumed a disinfectant he had brought from home in a school washroom in what was suspected to be a suicide bid.

A 15-year-old student of an English medium school in the city allegedly consumed a disinfectant he had brought from home in a school washroom in what was suspected to be a suicide bid. He was found unconscious by another student who brought the matter to the notice of school authorities.

Police said his condition was stable and he was under observation in the intensive care unit (ICU). As per information given by Swargate police,the student of Std X of Hume McHenry Memorial School consumed a small bottle of cleaning liquid he had brought from home. School principal B B Bhosale said,“His class is on the ground floor. At around 9.30 am,after one of the lectures,he asked the teacher’s permission to go to the washroom. He even prevented one his classmates who wanted to go along with him from accompanying him. After sometime another student who was in washroom raised the alarm on seeing that the student had fallen unconscious.”

Bhosale added,“He was immediately shifted to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital. We informed his parents. They told us he had brought the bottle from home. We found that he had written on his hand that he loves his parents. We do not know the reason why he took the step but suspect it might have something to do with a unit test result is expected in a day or two.”

Senior inspector Ram Pathare of Swargate police station said,“No case has been registered in the matter. Doctors have told us that the boy’s condition is stable now but he is being observed in the ICU.”
