In a bid to avoid inordinate delay in development of the city, the state government has set deadlines for various committees and the general body to take decisions on proposals put forth by the civic administration, failing which the proposals would automatically be deemed to have been approved.
The state government has amended provisions of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation (BPMC) Act to make the general body and various committees work in a time-bound manner. The PMC has received the notification and will start implementing it, said a civic official.
According to the amendments,it is necessary for the committee to take a decision within 45 days on proposals submitted by the civic administration. The general body too cannot hold any proposal for more than three months, failing which it (the proposal) will be considered approved.
The civic official said the state government has taken the decision since there is delay in implementing some development works in the city as elected representatives allegedly sit on policy matters and development proposals put forth by the administration.
Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal welcomed the state decision. There should be discussion on the proposals… the time limit set by the government is sufficient for elected representatives to decide on them. This will help the civic body complete development works on time.
At present, the delay in decision on proposals makes the initiative ineffective by the time it gets implemented after approval,Rajpal said adding,The development of the city is stuck due to the adamant stand of political parties. There are several proposals pending for long.
NCP legislator Bapu Pathare said the agendas of the general body remain pending for over four months. Now the elected representatives will not waste time on taking decisions and if they do,the municipal commissioner can announce it to be approved as per the new law.
