Olympiados shaded a close contest against Khadki Panthers as they held out for a 5-4 win in the Pune Sunday Hockey League. Santosh Kasture,Ramakant Baramatikar and Gaurav Kamble scored one goal each for Olympiados while Vijay Mahapadi scored a brace to help his side to a win. Traveltime won their match against Prabhakar Aspat Academy 3-1 with Rahul Zore scoring a goal and Milind Malai recording a brace. In the third match,Rocking Thunder scored a comprehensive 4-2 win against Pillay Pune Lions. Razik Shaikh,Amol Bhosale,Aniket Muthaiya and Momo were the scorers for Rocking Thunder. Traveltime also recorded a crushing 4-1 victory against Olympiados while Dakshin Tornado won 2-1 against Prabhakar Aspat academy. The four teams who will play the semi-finals on March 10 are Alphonsa Wizards,Traveltime,Dakshin Tornado and Rocking Thunder.

Shivajians ease past Bishops FC

Shivajians edged out Bishops FC 5-3 through a penalty shootout to progress to the finals of the third division of Pune Football tournament,organised by the PDFA at the Dobarwadi ground. The 90 minutes ended with both teams tied at one goal each. In the penalty shootout,Shivajians converted four of their spot kicks into goals while Bishops FC could score only three. Parvesh Desai,Swapnil Kadam,Rupesh Chaudhari and Amod Vanzari were successful for Shivajians while misses from Arun Anthony and Keegan Bast consigned Bishops FC to defeat. Shivajians will take on Sukhai FC in the final on Monday.

Barclays,Mind Tree,Sungard record wins

Mind Tree recorded a win over I Gate in the Inter-IT T20 cricket tournament played at Nehru Stadium. I Gate,who batted first,scored 125 runs in their allotted 20 overs with Mayur Birajdar scoring a handy 30 runs. However,Mind Tree overhauled the target on the last ball of the match with Saad Khan (37) and Dipak Thantharatey (30) aiding the charge to victory. Sungard beat Fiserv by 39 runs in another match. Batting first,Sungard scored 178 for five off their 20 overs. Fiserv could only manage 146 after losing all wickets. Persistent were defeated by Barclays in the last match of the day.

Joshi,Pawar crowned u-10 tennis champs

Mayank Joshi and Gargi Pawar were crowned winners of the u-10 state ranking tennis championship held at the MSLTA school of tennis in Balewadi. The tournament organised on the occasion of the World Tennis Day saw Joshi upset top seed Girish Chougule 6-2 to claim the boys’ title. Gargi Pawar,a student of City International School,scored a 6-3 win over Anisha Shewate to claim the girls’ title. The tournament had more than 100 participants from the Pune zone.
