PFC to begin Fed Cup against USFC
PFC begin their Federation Cup campaign on Thursday when they meet United Sikkim FC (USFC) at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur,in the Group D encounter. With four tournament appearances behind them,PFC hope their greater experience will help them prevail over USFC,who have only played a solitary qualifying round in the past. This is the first meeting between the two clubs,with USFC earning an I-League first division place after qualifying out of second division last season. USFC sport a new line-up,with stars such as Ex-India international Anwar and ex-Shillong Lajong FC captain Zenith Mashangva.
Five top seeds toppled
Five seeded players fell by the wayside in the quarterfinal phase of the Vishrambaug Trophy All India Junior national tennis tournament at the MSLTA School of Tennis courts on Tuesday. The most spectacular reverse was in the girls under-18 category,where Maharashtras Supriya Zende,seeded third,lost 6-0,6-0 to Mihika Yadav. Zende had a forgettable day all round,losing 6-4,2-6,6-1 to state-mate Vaibhavi Deshmukh in the girls under-16 event,in which she was seeded sixth.
Srishti Salria of Uttar Pradesh continued her upset spree,defeating seventh seed Srishti Das 3-6,7-5,6-3 to enter the under-18 semis. Top seed Aastha Dargude also exited against fifth seed Rajshree Rathod,who was trailing 2-6,0-3 before Dargude conceded the match. In the boys under-16 category,Barmatis Dharnidhar Mishra,seeded sixth,upset fourth seed Manav Pondkule 6-7(4),6-3,6-3 in the longest match of the day.
