PFC join defending champs Salgaocar in tough Federation Cup group
PUNE FC (PFC) is clubbed with Salgaocar SC,Prayag United SC and United Sikkim SC in Group D of the Federation Cup football tournament,which begins on September 19 at Siliguri and Ranchi. The Pune club will play all their group matches in Ranchi.
PFC begin their campaign against the newly-promoted I-League side United Sikkim SC on September 20. Two days later,they face Prayag United,before rounding off the group stage against defending champions Salgaocar SC on September 24. The AIFF season opener will see 16 teams competing in four groups of four teams each. Group A will also contest their matches in Ranchi,while Group B and Group C will play their matches in Siliguri. Group winners will make it to the semifinals. Both the venues will host one semifinal each. The final will be held in Siliguri on September 30.
Pune to host KV regional meet
Kendriya Vidyalaya,Southern Command,will host the KVs (Mumbai Region) Regional Level sports meet from September 3 to 5 in the archery and basketball disciplines for boys and girls. About 350 students are expected to participate in the meet. The archery event will be held at the Army Sports Institute,Ghorpadi,while the basketball event for boys will be held at the Pune Sub Area courts,while the girls event will be held at Army Institute of Physical Training on Solapur road. The regional meet will be followed by KV Nationals from October 16 to 18.
Shinde scores hat trick
A hat trick from Sumit Shinde helped Black Hawks score a 3-1 win over Rhino FC to move into the third round of the PDFA President Cup football tournament at the PDFA Dobarwadi Grounds.
Shinde scored in the 11th,21st and 24th minutes as the Hawks took a commanding 3-0 lead. Shubham Shinde replied with a consolation goal for Rhino in the 37th minute.
Rahul Javalkar United FC,meanwhile,edged out Nav Maharashtra in a tie-break after the match finished 1-1 in normal time. A Vicky Anthony penalty gave Rahul Javalkar the lead in the 18th minute,before Pankaj Bhosle equalised two minutes later. In the shootout,Sunny Sonawane,Vicky Anthony and Rohit Mali scored for Rahul Javalkar,while Munilesh Gupta and Parag Rawate found the net for Nav Maharashtra. In another match,Agnel Pillay scored a brace as Commandos defeated Sangam FC C 2-0 to move into round two.
