SP College takes a stand

Mgmt submits proposal to edu director to induct over 80 students.

SP College management seems to have succumbed to pressure from youth workers of various political outfits who were demanding admission for over 80 students in the college.

On Friday,SP College management submitted a proposal to the education department to induct the students if rules governing junior college admission permitted them to do so.

Speaking to Newsline, assistant director of education Balasaheb Ovhal said SP College’s proposal to admit more than 80 students will be sent to the state government after verifying how many candidates were admitted through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP).

“We believe the number of students who have refused CAP allotted colleges and are demanding a seat in SP College is huge. We are in the process of figuring out the exact number by verifying the CAP records. Many students have secured below 60 per cent. We could face legal action if we admit such students,as it will be against the rules of CAP,” he said.

‘Principal resigned on his own’

PUNE: The SP College management Friday accepted the resignation of principal Dilip Sheth. The management’s vice-president,Anant Mate, refuted allegations that Sheth was made a scapegoat in the admission issue. “Sheth has resigned on health grounds. We can show his resignation papers,” Mate said.
