In a bid to help foreigners moving into the city, the Pune police have decided to launch a website for helping foreigners get flats, houses and short-term accommodation facilities on rent
A new website of the foreigners registration office (FRO) of the Pune police will be launched soon,on which property owners, hostels, lodges, rest houses and so on would be asked to post their proposals for foreigners in Pune, said deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Ravindra Sengaonkar,in a press release issued here on Friday. The domain name of the website is yet to be decided.
A significant number of foreigners are coming to Pune for education and job purposes, said the release. They face difficulties in getting proper accommodation on rent and some real estate agents overcharge the foreigners. The new website will help them in directly contacting the owners of vacant houses, lodges and so on in various parts of Pune.
On the other hand, some of the foreigners are found involved in illegal activities here. In a recent instance, citizens beat up a group of foreigners for alleged rash driving in Fatimanagar on the Pune-Solapur Road,in the early hours on Tuesday. It is essential for the police to maintain a record of the residential addresses of foreigners in the city. Despite repeated appeals, real estate agents and property owners do not report these details to the police. The website may help the police in knowing the residential address of the foreigners, the release said.
