Smart city plan: PMC seeks ‘smart solutions’ to address civic issues

The feedback has been sought to draw smart solutions from public and enable the city contest for the top positions among the 98 probable cities.

AFTER reviewing and prioritising the civic issues, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has sought solutions for preparing the smart city plan for Pune in the third stage of its initiative on public participation. The feedback has been sought to draw smart solutions from public and enable the city contest for the top positions among the 98 probable cities.

On Monday, Municipal Commissioner Kunal Kumar said the third stage, which will go on till October 31, is based on the theme ‘co-create’ under which citizens will come up smart solutions to address the civic issues. The civic body has invited residents to participate in essay competitions on the theme ‘My Role as a Smart Citizen for the creation of Smart Pune’ and contribute their ideas for shaping the city’s future.

He said the essay contests will help residents hone their skills and improve their imagination and creativity. The initiative also aims to inspire society to learn from young minds and encourage people to think how they can make a difference to the development of Pune as a smart city, he added. He said writers from all over the city should also come forward and showcase their creative and critical thinking skills to transform the city. The participants should focus on the practical and implementable ideas or solutions related to the smart city and should match the context of the city.

The winners of the contest will be announced in the first week of November and cash prizes will be given in two categories (below 18 years and above 18 years). The essay should be between 800 and1,000 words and should be uploaded on http://www.punesmartcity.in or email to punesmartcity@gmail.com.
