Street smart
Street plays retain such rustic,hard-hitting punches in their bellies that they can transform and revolutionise any social message. The Swatantra Theater Group is on a mission to create awareness about the unholy nexus between the piracy ‘industry’ and terrorism, through the medium of nukkad natak. The play, which is titled Mission Against Piracy, wants to make the general public aware of the dangerous and little known pitfalls of purchasing pirated CDs and DVDs. As Abhijeet Choudhary, the director of the play, says,We don’t realise that we are supporting terrorists and killing ourselves and our brethren across the world.” The group has been approaching colleges and institutes, companies and malls, and, since August 2,they have staged the play wherever they were granted permission. The troupe will be touring around the city till August 15. For details, email swatantratheatre@gmail.com.
