Actor Upendra Limaye makes sure he visits Pune to enjoy his favourite sea food dishes

We remember for his strong character roles in Page 3,Jogwa or Traffic Signal, but he has tastier reason to remember Pune. Actor Upendra Limaye,an avid-sea food lover, finds Pune a good destination to satisfy his taste buds.

“I love both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, but pomfret and prawn curry are my all time favorite. I make sure I go to Nisarg restaurant in Pune for some good seafood. I go there with my family and friends to enjoy the food there,” says Limaye.

Originally from Pune, the actor has settled down in Mumbai and whenever his professional commitments brings him to the city,he makes sure to enjoy the food here, which he thinks is amazing. In Mumbai,he prefers to go to Ghazali restaurant.

However, whenever he gets time,Limaye loves to cook at home. “It depends on the situation. Now I am expert in cooking pomfret and prawn curry,” he says.

Giving full credit to his wife, who helped him hone his culinary skills,he says that his wife has been his guide in the kitchen. “During my struggle days in Mumbai, when I stayed alone around five years ago,I used to call my wife in Pune for the recipes. Today I can say,I have learnt cooking from her,” he says, adding,”My wife, who is a doctor by profession,is obviously a fantastic cook. “I love every dish she cooks but I like Sabu Dana the most,” he adds. “Moreover, when you have a doctor at home, you need not worry for your health.”

Discussing junk,he says,Vada Pav is his favourate fast food at the stalls. “I firmly believe that nothing can beat our Vada Pav. If someone offers me burger or Vada Pav,I would definitely go for the latter,” smiles he. However,he admits one should not eat much spicy foods during summers. “I personally don’t like spicy foods and in summers it is very essential that one should drink water as much as possible,” Limaye specifies. He drinks at least 1.5-2 litre lemon water during hectic outdoor-shootings.

According to him, fruits are another alternative to beat the heat. “It depends on the season. During summers,I prefer watermelon, and mango mostly,” he says. Like every Marathi,Limaye too loves sweets. Modak is his favourate sweet dish. However, among the international dishes,Limaye likes to taste Italian and Thai cuisines but he agrees nothing can be better than our own desi khana.

Talking about his fitness mantra,Limaye declares,”When I am in Mumbai,I work out for an hour at the gym but, when I go out of the city,I concentrate more on Yoga in the hotel rooms and this keeps me really fit.”
