Eshan Naqvi and Jui Agaskar were crowned the new mens and womens singles champions, respectively,in the Maharashtra Senior State championship, organised by the Nashik Badminton Association, which concluded at the Nashik Gymkhana.
The frustration of the Pune shuttlers at the hands of the Thane team continued,as sixth seed Eshan Naqvi upset Punes Mayank Gole, who was seeded second,in the final.
Gole adopt an attacking strategy from the start, but Naqvi managed to stave off the barrage with strong defensive skills to take the first set 21-16.
The 20-year-old from Thane was always in control in the second game and had little trouble in warding off Goles challenge as he won it comfortably 21-17 to take the title. Naqvis teammate Jui Agaskar captured the Womens singles title with a closely fought 21-14,16-21,21-19 win in the finals.
The Puneites did extremely well in the doubles, however, with womens doubles champion Noopur Sahasrabudhe bagging a double crown on Sunday when she teamed up with fellow Puneite Sameer Bhagwat to win the mixed doubles title
