It was not difficult at all for me to pen down chapters of my life,I have never been secretive about it, said Arun Shourie at the release of his latest book,Does He Know A Mothers Heart? at Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication,Lavale on Wednesday.
Journalists today are not examining the details of a situation they cover. Our basic job is to get the details correctly and present them as they are, said Shourie as he expressed his feelings about the current journalistic scenario.
When I was working with The Indian Express,I would tell my colleagues that we should be like crocodiles. When we get someones leg in our mouth,we shouldnt let it go until there is some consequence, said Shourie.
He complained of journalism turning from investigative into inventive due to the incestuous relationships between the journalist and the subject to be written about. We are not mouthpieces of institutions or public figures,we are trustees of truth, he emphasised.
Shouries book was released at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan later in the evening. The book is an argument that the conventional thoughts about God that we are fed throughout our lives are not subject to examination. We do not think about the things we do in the name of religion. We outsource worship and rituals. Why do we do all this? Why dont we think about what we do? said Shourie urging people to think about religion and seek explanations for its theories.
He quoted Dalai Lama saying Buddhism is not a religion but is a science of the mind. The book is dedicated to all mothers who bring up special children as it unfolds the relationship of Shourie, his wife Anita and his child Aditya.
