Bright-coloured pants were the raging trend this winter. Come summer, and the colours are still in vogue, though in a shorter format. With the heat coming along in full swing, short pants are becoming a chic way to stay cool. Be it denims or lycra cotton, theres a pair in every fabric and for every occasion. So style gurus team a high-waist pair of shorts in solid, earthy colours with a fitted shirt and ballerinas to get the formal yet summery look,or a pair of stone-washed denim shorts, ripped at the hem, with a vest, broad belt, chunky bangles and a pair of boots for the ultimate rock-chic look. Students in the city are giving it their own little twist.
Eighteen-year-old Karishma Anthony likes the printed variety. With floral patterns spelling freshness, she likes to wear thigh-high floral printed shorts to hang out with her friends after college. The weather is very weird these days; it gets warm at times. So,
I feel comfortable in a pair of shorts, says Anthony,a student of Ness Wadia college. For a fun party at night with friends, she teams dressy tops with animal print shorts. I picked up a pair of animal-print shorts from Zara for special occasions. At other times,I lounge around in cotton lycra shorts, she says.
With dress code restrictions at the college, shorts come out only after college hours for Khushboo Chelani,a student of St Miras College. I have shorts in a variety of colours red ,grey, blue and green, says Chelani, who sports shorts while hanging out with her friends.
While some prefer to try out new varieties, there are those who are loyal to the old-school rip-off denims. Neha Visani,a third-year student of biotechnology at Nowrosjee Wadia College, puts her worn-out pants to good use. I found two pairs of bell-bottomed pants in my cupboard that I cut and stitched on the hem. Thats what I do when Im bored of a pair of pants or if they are out of fashion, she says. Visani adds funk to her shorts by pinning cool badges near the pockets.
Taking the cool quotient of shorts a notch higher,Anamika Godse wears linen shorts. The 24-year-old MBA student from Institute of Business Management and Research (ISBM) has stocked her cupboard with just-above-the-knee linen shorts in many colours. I was tagging along with my friend for shopping in Mumbai when I saw these shorts. I was so impressed with the soft fabric that I picked up six pairs. Apart from the basic colours and the must-have black and white,I also bought shorts in hot pink, deep purple, parrot green and butterscotch, she says.
