It was while touring the picturesque land of Uzbekistan that Delhi-based designer Vineet Bahl chanced upon a pile of carpets with Quashqai work — the traditional Turkish motifs — on them. Inspired,the 34-year-old designed his Spring-Summer 2012 collection around the art form. Now,this range,also titled ‘Quashqai’,is available for sale on Net-a-Porter.com,one of the world’s most-known retail websites. Bahl is,in fact,the first Indian designer whose collection has been put up for sale on the website. “They were studying my brand for over four seasons and were in discussion with me all along. Finally,they bought the entire SS12 collection,” says an elated Bahl. ‘Quashqai’ comprises knee-length dresses,tops,maxi dresses,tunics and cardigans in cotton gauze,chiffon,georgette,voile and cambric. “Net-a-Porter is the doorway to the world of eclectic fashion where designers are literally handpicked,after having been scrutinised for their creativity and commercial viability. So,on the website,my label is competing with names such as Gucci,Lanvin,YSL and Prada,” says Bahl. The clothes ranges between $200 and $900 (Rs 11,000 and 50,000 approx).
