Get measures in place or pay up: police to PCMC
The city police had sent a notice to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal corporation (PCMC) authorities to strengthen the security measures.
The police had suggested the civic body to increase the height of its boundary walls,put wire fencing,beef up security measures at the entrance by installing new gates and keeping armed guards on duty. The municipal corporation has also been asked to install video cameras and CCTV inside the corporation office.
T D Gaud,police inspector,Pimpri police station,has sent a notice in this regard to Ashokkumar Dalvi,chief security officer of PCMC.
The notice also warns the civic body that in failing to upgrade the security,it will have to pay a fine of Rs 500.
The Pimpri police have asked all corporation employees to wear ID cards so that security staff can identify them easily. Also,all visitors should be frisked and should be given a visitors pass and their names and addresses should be recorded.
The PCMC has also been directed that cameras should be installed at the entrance of every department and during night hours,the corporation premises should be well lit.
The security agencies that the PCMC ties up with should be government-recognised. There should be adequate fire fighting equipment on every floor.
Dalvi said,Of the 645 properties of PCMC,160 premises are covered by 307 security guards. However,2,348 more guards are needed to secure all the premises of the corporation. The municipal corporation is equipped with metal detectors. A total of 41 guards will be employed.
CCTVs at crucial spots,more fire stations
TO ensure the security of the public,the Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to introduce security measures by installing close circuit camera at important locations.
A provision of Rs one crore for installing CCTVs have been made in the budget. The PMC plans to start new fire stations towards which a provision of Rs 1.8 crore has been made while a provision of Rs 40 lakh for new fire tenders and ambulances has been made for 2010-11. The civic standing committee had rejected the proposal to appoint agency to penalise citizens violating traffic rules and are caught in the 70 cameras installed at various city junctions and important roads.
A total of Rs 50 lakh has been marked for funding citizen facilitation centres at government offices.
