The preparations for 2011s first and biggest film awards evening the Karbonn Mobiles 17th Annual Star-Screen Awards is on in full swing. Come January 6,the MMRDA Grounds in Bandra-Kurla Complex will turn into the best destination to experience the talent, glitz and glamour that makes Bollywood so special.
Currently, the jury is busy watching films, discussing and drawing up the nomination lists in different categories. Certainly a tough and unenviable job lies ahead of them. Whats special about this years awards is that Screen has for the first time formed the Screen Selection Academy with eminent members from the film fraternity.
The Academy comprises reputed filmmakers such as David Dhawan,Nagesh Kukunoor,Kunal Kohli, prominent producers Ramesh Taurani,Bhushan Kumar, veteran actor Jaya Bachchan, writer Honey Irani and art director Samir Chanda and Nitin Desai. It also has popular singers such as Udit Narayan,award-winning lyricists such as Swanand Kirkire, sound recordists Nakul Kamte and Rakesh Ranjan, choreographer Saroj Khan, action director Allan Amin and film distributor/exhibitor Shyam Shroff on board.
The Academys members have been drawn from various crucial departments of filmmaking so that all the aspects of cinema are covered. This will help avoid discrepancies and ensure that no film big, small, hit or flop is left out, with merit being the sole criterion.
This body of film personalities will shortlist 25 films, which will act as a ready reckoner for the core jury. However,it is not compulsory for the jury to follow the Academy mandate, though they can consult the list before making the final choice. The members of the Academy may or may not be a part of this years releases. However,as per the norms, people who are part of the jury are not involved in any of the the films that have released this year.
