A new Guinness World Record title for ‘most people in a single mountain run’ was set at the Satara Hill Half Marathon (SHHM) organised by PNB and MetLife on September 6.
The announcement came after Guinness World Records (GWR) authenticated the information Wednesday. This was the fourth edition of the marathon.
As many as 2,618 participants from across the country, as well as international runners, took part in the event, beating the record of 2,122 participants previously held in Gujarat. In the men’s category, Biruk Jitar (1:07:47), and in women’s category, Fikirte Dechasa (1:19:30), from Ethiopia were the winners, successfully completing the distance of 21.1 km.
SHHM chief Chandrashekhar Ghorpade said, “We’re glad to have marked our place in the Guinness Book Of World Records.”
The event is organised every year by the Marathon Association, Satara, and is recognised by the International Amateur Athletic Federation. It is one of the few marathons in the country to have the distinction of being a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance races.
