Step into this world and it feels like the real is out if sight – camera flashes, larger than life settings, suave lingo and colourful attires greet you wherever you look. For a fashion novice, the atmosphere is a little overwhelming. But for a fashion enthusiast, this is the place to be. And so,as the third and final day of the second edition of Pune Fashion Week (PFW) came to an end,the applauds rang out loud and clear. Amidst grand fashion carnivals and fashion weeks, the PFW seemed just like a beginning but a beginning that has made a mark. What worked for this three-day mega fashion event was its grand and free flowing appeal. Day 3 had designers Seema Singh,Deepak Shah,Nandita Mahtani and Rocky S putting forth their collections and each one was lauded by the audience. The only dampener was that Shilpa and Shamita Shetty, who were expected to make an appearance, were nowhere to be seen.

Deepak Shah

This was one show that managed to get out of the ramp, into the audience’s mind and then into their conversations! Deepak Shah impeccable men’s collection, right from the classy evening suits to ethnic wear, belts, shoes and bags, made quite a statement. The models displayed the collection well, making the whole show worth a watch. A lot of offshore colours were used which was the high point. Sandip Soparrkar, who was present in classy ethnic wear, said this collection was very fresh. Actors Jackie Shroff and Suniel Shetty were also present. Shetty commented,“What I loved about the clothes were the colours. The workmanship was perfect to the tee and there was a lot of class and quality. I think I would love to wear anything from Shah’s collection as it makes a good style statement.” The designer himself felt that the highpoint of the ensemble was the detailing in the clothes. “This collection has a lot of intricate details. There is a lot of accessorizing and I think it also scores a lot in the commercial aspect too,” shared Shah. What also stole the show was the background score – a live flute performance that brought out the beauty of the designs.

Seema Singh

Her collection was a treat to watch. Singh’s collection had a good mix of floor-length dresses,lehengas,churidar-kurtis and footwear,in fabrics like crepe, silk and net. A lot of experimentation in gold was the high point of the designs. The broad belts too were eye catching. The colours ranged from natural, earthy tones to sunburnt orange, red, purple and orchid, and they gave a few of the clothes a very fresh perspective. Talking about her line of clothes and PFW,Singh shared,“I have tried to incorporate a lot of technique into my designs and thus have used drapes and vibrant colours. I have also used quite a bit of zardosi work.” When asked if the collection translates into business, she simply said that Pune is a conscious market, fashionably very sound.
