As Sudipto Rudra,a poet who recently bought a new apartment,says,“I wish to delve into my creative side by painting the house myself. I’m certain that it will be exciting and an experience to cherish.”

Agreeing with the same trend of thought Anuradha Dixit,a lawyer by profession feels that splashing the walls of her house with different hues is a definite stress buster. “The experience has surely brought out my creativity and was a lot more fun as my sister and our friends all came over to help me. After the job was done,I felt my house had personal touch to it. And the bonus was the fact that I lost three kilos weight in the five days I spent painting my house,” she exclaims.

For most the urge to paint begins when they buy an apartment – a small cozy one bedroom,house just for oneself. And along with it come all those childhood fantasies that people wish to mould into reality. Speaking about a similar experience Aditi Deshpande a homemaker says,“I wanted to do something different with my house and thought of painting it. Since I am not a good painter I had to drop the idea. However painting a wall was what popped into my head and that’s why I bought four different colour samples and splashed them on the wall. To make it a touch special,both me and my fiancé also marked the wall over with our handprints.”

It might look like a simple job for people with moderate painting skills,but giving your house a revamp does involve a lot of expenditure on paints and more importantly on patience. But there’s a bonus too as Sachin Pardeshi an ITES professional points out,“By doing the work yourself,you can usually save more than half the cost of the job. It is a task that lets you take a break from the heavy-duty workload at your office and lets you indulge in a fun-filled activity that brings family members closer.”

Painting ones own house also brings in the human touch and makes the family value the house more. And as Denis Waitley says ,“Winners take time to relish their work,knowing that scaling the mountain is what makes the view from the top so exhilarating.”
