Its been almost 19 long years since I have been scratching on the turntables to create new forms of music, laughs Riel. Starting out in 1991 Riel quickly to become one of the more popular DJs in Holland. His inspiration for music came at age 10 when he first heard Acid House permeating through the walls of his room from a neighbours apartment.

It was one of the best things that happened to me as a musician. The ability to sit up and take notice of something new like this was huge for me. Although I began as a DJ I have now graduated to becoming a producer too, he says.

To him,Ferry Costen is a huge inspiration. It’s important to have inspiration. They actually help you mould your own style of music and you know what you want to sound like when you play,which is important, adds Riel. Each and every club that I have played at,every festival,or for that matter every audience,has always been different,and that too in a good way, he adds cheekily. In the city to perform at the preview of the Sunburn Launch festival,at Gaia,Riel is enthusiastic about his maiden tour of the city. If I have to go by the stories that many other DJs who have performed in the city have told me,Id say this is a totally happening city with a crowd that is always ready to party,As a DJ,that is what one really expects from a crowd, he muses.

So what does he feel about the trance music scene here,in India? I think things are really changing here and Indians are always ready to absorb anything new. That alone is the best part about playing hereand something that I will be looking forward to,time and again, he says before signing off.
