Resident doctors at B J Medical College who joined duty on Tuesday night have said that they were apologetic for the incovenience that their strike caused the patients.
According to Dr Abhilesh Darade,spokesperson for the Pune unit of MARD the strike was finally called off after the government conceded their demands and raised their stipend by Rs 7,000. Darade,however,urged in a release issued here that they were appreciative of several persons who supported them.
Dr Mahesh Mistry,general secretary of the Pune unit of MARD,who was part of the delegation that held negotiations with the government said that the government has also agreed to introduce an insurance policy for the resident doctors that will take care of occupational hazards. “We will be resuming work on Tuesday evening,” Mistry said.
Earlier,doctors had conducted a parallel OPD and were awaiting for instructions from the Central unit of MARD before resuming duties. The government had issued an advertisement inviting applications for 205 posts of resident doctors at B J Medical College,Dr Arun Jamkar,Dean B J Medical College had said. Mistry however pointed out that the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) has agreed to reverse the orders that had called for termination of doctors services and cancellation of their registrations.
