Reporer’s Book

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s remarks on homosexuality has evoked strong reactions.

Khajuraho Lesson For Minister Azad

Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad’s remarks on homosexuality has evoked strong reactions. Joining the debate was Marathi playwright Pramod Kale. Reacting to Azad’s statement that homosexuality was imported from the west,Kale said,“Hasn’t Mr Azad visited Khajuraho famous for erotic sculptures? Sculptors have depicted all aspects of life and being greatly influenced by the Tantric school of thought the society of the time believed in dealing frankly and openly with matters related to sex be it bisexual or homosexual. Are we such hypocrites that now the health minister has to say homosexuality was imported from the west?”

Needed,Seat Etiquette

Mismanagement of various issues by the Education Board of the PMC has been in news off and on. A reporter recently learnt that its event management skills, too, need a revamp. The reporter had gone to attend a meeting conducted by the education board. Unlike other public functions, the seating arrangements were strange. Anyone wanting to enter the hall would first have to get on to the dais where the officials were seated and then get off it to reach a chair. Not anticipating such an arrangement,a reporter inadvertently tripped on the dais and made a loud thud causing about 50 people to turn towards her as the meeting was on. The embarrassment did not end there. The reporter, getting off the dais to find a seat, stumbled and almost landed on a person on the front row.

Keyword Corruption

Female foeticide is an issue that local corporators are raising at almost every public function. At one such function, politicians were deciding how to take the campaign against it forward. “I will take up a morcha,” said one. Another was keen on supporting agitations and giving memoranda to the state government. When a media professional asked what the PCPNDT Act meant, one of them answered; “prevention of corruption in determining the sex of the child”. With high-end corruption in almost every sector, looks like even local politicians can’t keep off using the word in their campaigns, even if they struggle to get the right abbreviation.

PG Labour Lost

A youth recently went to the PCMC office after coming to know from a friend that there was vacancy for a labourer. When he met a civic official and showed him his commerce post-graduate certificate, the official was stumped.

“We need a labourer not an officer,“ he told the youth. Not to be undone, the youth replied,“Sir,first give me labourer’s job. I promise I will work hard to become an officer.”
