Deputy CM directs police chief, traffic police chief to ban processions causing jams

All flex boards spoiling the city’s skyline should to be removed. This is the latest directive to come from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar after he reviewed the safety and security situation in the city with the newly-appointed Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic) Vishwas Pandhare on Tuesday.

Pawar said criminal action should be taken by the police and administration against those installing flex boards. “Flex boards, including mine, should be removed forthwith,” he said.

Pawar said action should also be taken against hookah parlours in city.

Following gang wars in Dhankwadi area during processions, the Deputy CM said the new police commissioner should initiate measures to prevent such processions on city streets. He said steps should be taken to ensure marriage processions do not spill onto roads, causing traffic congestion. “I have asked Pandhare to ensure smooth traffic on city roads,” he said.

He said there were less traffic jams at chowks near Sancheti hospital after grade separators were installed. “More grade separators are needed in the city,’’ said Pawar. He added that parking tickets should also be issued diligently. Pawar said tenders have been floated for the ring road project and those giving up land for the project would be given Tranfer of Development Rights (TDR). Sites for bus depots will be decided for the project.

Asked about appointment of a CMD for PMPML,Pawar said that those with “the desire to work for this sector” will be selected.
