Tree falls on man,girl drowns in canal,man falls into drainage hole
Three persons were killed in separate rain-related accidents on Friday.
Narayan Dattatraya Wagh (45) was killed after a tree fell on him outside the government printing press in Yerwada. Wagh,a resident of Nagpur chawl in Yerwada was working with the printing press since 1983. He was going home on Friday when the tree came down in the heavy downpour crushing him. Local residents and police rushed him to Jehangir Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. He is survived by wife and two children.
In another incident,25-year-old Shama Shaikh was killed after she was dragged into a canal at Krishna Nagar in Mohammedwadi in Hadapsar,along with the two-wheeler she was pillion-riding,around 10 pm on Friday.
Shama and her brother Nisar Akil Shaikh,residents of Krishna Nagar,on their way home were crossing the bridge. A part of the newly-constructed bridge over the canal had come off leaving a ditch into which the two-wheeler fell and Nisar lost balance. Both of them fell into the canal. Though local residents managed to rescue Nisar,Shama was carried away by the strong currents. Though the police and fire brigade launched a rescue operation at night,Shama’s body was found in the canal at Sayyad Nagar ion Saturday morning.
Shiv Sena MLA Mahadev Babar and corporator Nana Bhangire visited Shaikh’s family and announced Rs 25,000 financial help.
A 55-year-old man died after he fell into a drainage hole at Jagtap chowk in Wanavdi around 8.30 pm on Friday. The deceased Haribhau Jaywant Gajare was a resident of Shanti Nagar. Gajare who was walking home could not see the drainage hole near Bharat dairy as there was water logging at the spot. The fire brigade team fished out his body later. Police sub inspector Sachin Patil of Wanavdi police station is investigating.
