Rain brings down mercury a notch

On Monday,the city saw mercury levels at 37 °C,less than the first two days of the month.

On Monday,the city saw mercury levels at 37 °C,less than the first two days of the month. IMD officers said the rains on Sunday caused a slight dip in mercury levels. The first two days of the month saw the temperatures at 38°C-39°C.

With the moisture coming in from the Arabian sea and the sudden heating of the atmosphere bringing rains in certain parts of the state,temperatures are largely likely to hover around 38°C-39°C this month,said S B Gaonkar,director weather central from IMD,Pune.

The highest recorded temperature for May has been 43.3°C recorded on May 7,1889. The last ten years has seen the temperatures in May touch 42°C. Last year,on May 18,it was 40.3°C while in 2003 it was 42.9°C on May 2. 2001 too saw the temperatures touch 42.1°C on the same day.
