Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is set to campaign for Rohit Tilak,the Congress-NCP candidate from Kasba Peth constituency here,by participating in a road show. NCP chief Sharad Pawar will also be part of the campaign. We will focus primarily on young voters and Gandhis presence will be a boost, said Tilak,who filed his nomination from the Tilak Road divisional office on Thursday.
On his candidature,which some say was unexpected,Tilak a descendent of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak said,It was not unexpected. I have been working with the Youth Congress for many years. I am coordinating the Aam Aadmi campaign and plan to implement the same in the Kasba Peth constituency.
Now,all the major candidates from the constituency,including BJP-Sena combines Girish Bapat and Ravindra Dhangekar of the MNS,have filed their nominations. Bapat had claimed during his rally that BJP would win with over 1.3 lakh votes in the constituency. Tilak said,Voters in Kasba Peth are well-educated. The Lok Sabha win at the centre is an indication of the peoples positive approach towards the Congress. The goodwill generated at the Centre will help us win.
Poll code violation: offence registered against Girish Bapat,Ravindra Dhangekar
BJP-Senas sitting MLA Girish Bapat and Ravindra Dhangekar of the MNS have been booked under section 188 of Indian Penal Code for violating the code of conduct during their election rally before filing their nominations. Bapat and Dhangekar had taken prior permission for holding election rallies on Wednesday. Hoever,offence has been registered against both for causing traffic chaos and noise pollution by bursting crackers between Dagdusheth Ganpati temple and Budhwar Chowk, said Ranjit Dhure,divisional police controller,Kasba Peth.
