The International Olympiad in Informatics 2010 (IOI-2010) in August this year will see Archit Vikrant Karandikar from Pune representing India.
Archit, who is currently pursuing B Tech Computer Science programme from IIT Indore,is the first student from Maharashtra to achieve this feat.
The other students from India who have qualified for the Olympiad are Keshav Dhandhania (Kolkata),Siddharth Krishna (Madanapalle) and Anish Shankar (Chennai). The training camp to select the team was held in Bangalore last month.
These students were selected from the Indian Computing Olympiad organised by the Indian Association for Research in Computer Science (IARCS).
The olympiad will be held in the University of Waterloo,Ontario,Canada. The other science olympiads are held in Mathematics,Physics,Chemistry,Biology,Astronomy and Astrophysics.
The competition aims at identifying school students with outstanding skills in algorithms and computer programming.
The questions asked will be of algorithmic nature and students will also have to show basic IT skills such as problem analysis, design of algorithms and data structures, programming and testing.
The International Olympiad in Informatics is one of the most recognised computer science competitions in the world and will bring together teams from over 80 countries.
