Man attacks 20-year-old student with machete in Pune

“The woman was on the way to her college and was riding pillion on the bike of another male friend. Jadhav had been following them asking her to talk to him. At a point the rider stopped and he and Jadhav had an exchange of words. Moments later Jadhav took out a machete he was carrying in his bag and charged on the woman and her friend. The rider then ran away from the spot after resisting some blows by Jadhav. The girl then started running and was chased by the attacker armed with the machete.” said a police officer from Vishrambag police station.

The officer added, “As the attacker started chasing the girl, some people raised an alarm and ran to intervene. After chasing her for some distance Jadhav struck her on the head after which she fell on the ground. By that time some youths had started making attempts to stop Jadhav and take away his machete. He however managed to strike again before he could be overpowered by people and taken away from the woman.” Jadhav was given a thrashing by the local youths before he was handed over to police at Perugate police chowky and was later placed under arrest.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Sandeep Singh Gill said, “The girl has sustained injuries on her head and hand. The injuries are from a sharp weapon. She has received treatment and is out of danger. A probe is being conducted.” Senior Inspector Dadasaheb Gaikwad, in-charge of Vishrambag police station said, “We have booked the attacker on the charges of attempt to murder under IPC section 307.”
