KP loses sleep over post-party,midnight brawls
For the never-ending stream of people to Koregaon Parks more-than-two-dozen popular outlets and joints ranging from small eateries and pubs to lounges, large restaurants star hotels it is fun and unwinding. The residents often find it a headache and complain of late-night brawls and noisy midnight parties disturbing their sleep.
The police,on an average, get half-a-dozen complaint calls every night. It was only last week that we had to call the police to complain about a birthday party on the road at around 1am. There were about eight boys standing outside a hotel singing some birthday songs at the top of their voice. Our housing society watchman requested them to lower their volume. The boys refused to oblige. We had to call the police, who drove them off, said P K Tripathi,a resident of lane 7 of Koregaon Park.
He added that the hotels are crowded with customers especially on weekends and holidays, when it becomes impossible to sleep until 1am or 2am.
Unruly parking by hotel-goers is a problem. While we request hotel managers to ensure customers vehicles are parked only in designated parking lots, there are times when I have to call the hotel manager to move vehicles parked in front of our colony gate, said Mithila Achuthan,a resident of North Main Road,Koregaon Park.
The police said they do receive complaints from Koregaon Park. A police patrol van does a round at night to curb such incidents, said a police personnel. He added that they receive about half-a-dozen calls every night about noise.
Ganesh Shetty, the president of the Pune Restaurants and Hoteliers Association, said they had not received any complaint of hotel-goers being a nuisance to local residents. Once a customer steps out of a hotel,it is not the hotel managements responsibility if she or he disturbs the locality in any way, he said.
The recent decision of the police to allow restaurants to remain open till 12.30am is likely to make the situation worse, said Manas Agarwal, resident.
