For the next four to five days, Pune and its neighbouring areas may witness light rainfall, but no heavy rainfall is expected.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the maximum temperature is expected to be between 33-34 degrees Celsius while the minimum will be in the range of 23-25 degrees Celsius.
For the last two days, Pune has seen rain and sunny spells in different regions of the city, with brief showers in areas such as Warje, Kondhwa, Paud Road, Kothrud, and Baner. According to IMD Pune, the city’s maximum temperature was recorded at Hadapsar at 25.7 degrees Celsius while the lowest was in Baramati at 20.2 degrees Celsius.
According to S D Sanap, a scientist from IMD, Pune, it is not necessary for every region of the city to receive rain, but light rain may be seen across Pune for the upcoming five days, especially until June 17 or 18. “After June 18, we may expect a stronger monsoon flow but are not certain about heavy rainfall,” he said.
For the last couple of days, there has been sporadic isolated rain, meaning only a couple of stations in Pune recorded rainfall, which was below 25 percent of Pune’s area. “The rainfall received was not heavy but light and were observed in few isolated areas,” added Sanap.
According to the IMD, rainfall between 2.5mm to 15.5mm is classified as light rainfall. After June 18, there may be an increase in rainfall intensity with the possibility of a strong monsoon.
According to the IMD website, Pune and its surrounding regions such as Pashan, Koregaon, Magarpatta, NDA, Chinchwad, Lohegaon, and Lavale will have partly cloudy skies and may experience overcast conditions towards the afternoon and evening, with one or two spells of light rain very likely over the next four to five days.
